Just like an anti wrinkle cream product, wrinkle fillers are a non-permanent solution for reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles. Over the past several years, the marketing campaigns surrounding wrinkle fillers have created a perception of being more of a long term solution to wrinkles. In reality, that depends on exactly what you consider to be long-term. Even the best wrinkle fillers currently available will last for a maximum of several months after which time to body begins to break down the filler material and treatment needs to be performed again to renew the results. Wrinkle creams are generally considered to be a short term solution to wrinkles because they usually require daily application.

Comparing Wrinkle Fillers to Anti Wrinkle Creams

The treatment process for wrinkle fillers such as Juvederm, Radiesse, and Restylane involves injecting a filler product such as collagen (or any one of several other synthetic blends) into the skin to plump up wrinkles and restore a smoother appearance. The injections are fairly safe and typically involve a minimal amount of pain during the procedure. Anti wrinkle creams on the other hand take a topical approach by focusing on providing valuable nutrients to the skin from the surface. These products are also very safe in most cases provided that you are buying from a trusted company or established brand.

The next area of comparison will focus on the cost of the two different approaches to getting rid of wrinkles. Wrinkle fillers are usually priced per treatment and average anywhere from around $280 to as much as $950. Keep in mind when evaluating the cost of such treatments that treatments occur approximately every six months so your cost per month is actually lower than the cost of a single treatment when you break it down. A treatment costing $900 would actually break down to $150 per month if the treatment was performed every six months. Wrinkle cream products on the other hand usually come in a one to three month supply and cost between $20 and $120 depending on the manufacturer and what ingredients are being used.

So which one is better?

That depends on how you look at it. If you can’t stand the thought of spending hundreds of dollars at a time to battle lines and wrinkles or if you are afraid of needles, choosing a good topical wrinkle firming cream is probably the best solution for you. If you don’t mind spending the extra money and are willing to deal with several injections, a wrinkle filler might be the way to go.
