With our minds starting to tire of winter and thoughts of spring starting to occupy our brains, it’s time to get rid of that ugly pale skin and start working on a nice tan! While it may be too cold to start lying out in a bikini, it’s never too early to start building that golden bronze tan with a high quality self tanner. I know, I know; I’ve heard all of the horror stories about self tanners leaving you with tiger-stripe streaks or an orangey color. Fortunately, many of the newer self tanning products to hit the market have made vast improvements in color, smell, and dry time to make it easier than ever to get a perfect tan from the comfort of your own home. With that being said, it is important to pick your self tanner carefully! A great way to save yourself a lot of time and potentially wasted money searching for a good product is to take advantage of a site like RateitAll.com where customers from around the world share their experience with different products and post their reviews for the world to see. Their list of the best self tanners for 2010 is a great place to find authentic reviews from actual users of the top sunless tanning products currently on the market. Once you find a product or two that looks like it will meet your needs, be sure to carefully read the instructions before you apply the product. More often than not, the key to success with tanning products is to make sure that it is applied properly as per the manufacturer instructions. After you get good results, be sure to share your experience so you can help others find a quality product as well. The old saying that the cream rises to the top holds very true with sunless tanners. By drawing on the experience of others, you can get rid of that pale winter skin and be on your way to a beautiful sun kissed tan that will have your friends thinking you just returned from an exotic beach vacation!

One of the biggest trends in the beauty industry this year has been in eyelash enhancement. If you are not already familiar with them, these are products that stimulate the growth of your eyelashes for greater length and thickness. The majority of these eyelash enhancers relay on an ingredient called Bimatoprost. It is a prostaglandin analog that can be found in several non-drug cosmetics. There has been significant concern over some of the potential side effects which include blurred vision, redness, pain or burning around the eyes, and even permanent change in eye color. In 2007, the FDA issued a warning saying damage to the optic nerve could lead to decreased vision or blindness. By the time the warnings started to trickle out, consumers had already developed a strong liking for the results and have been seeking alternative eyelash enhancement products that do not contain Bimatoprost. Once such product is called LashAlive and it uses all natural ingredients to enhance the appearance of the eyelashes. In a 2008 clinical study, it was shown to improve the eyelashes of 64% of study participants within 21 days. After 56 days, that number jumped to an astounding 92%! This product has also passed several safety studies including a skin irritation study and an eye irritation study. This gives consumers the ability to use a product that delivers great results without the potential risks associated with Bimatoprost. Eyelash enhancement is here to stay in the cosmetic industry as our appetite for longer, thicker, and more beautiful eyelashes seems to grow larger by the day.

Self Tanners

October 19, 2009

With the chill of winter starting to make its way in, your mind may be starting to drift a little bit to thoughts of spending time outside under the warm summer sun or enjoying time by the pool this summer. One way to ease the pain over the transitioning seasons is to keep yourself looking like you did this summer. Just because July has come and gone, that doesn’t mean your nice tan has to as well! This summer saw the introduction of some brilliant new self tanners and sunless tanning products. No, I’m not talking about those streaky, orange looking self tanners of the past. I’m talking about the next generation tanners that actually look and feel like a real tan only without the sun and without the risk of UV exposure. With these new products, not only can you get an amazing tan; you can do it for less than the cost of a trip to Starbucks each day! One such new product is a natural self tanner is the Bronzing Glow by Greek Island Labs. It is a light mist that comes in a spray bottle and all you have to doo to get a fresh gradual tan is apply a few spritzes each day and gently massage it into your skin. The product has a very light tropical scent which goes away a few minutes after you apply it. It is a unique product in that it is made with norganic ingredients and leaves your skin not only tan but soft and smooth as well. Worried about it getting on your clothes? Not going to happen here! This light mist dries within seconds and does not stain your clothes or bed linens, nor does it come of in the shower. Don’t feel like you have to give up that great tan this winter! Self tanning products are better than ever and can have you looking like you just got back from a cruise all year round. Winter might be unavoidable but the pale and unhealthy looking skin that typically goes along with it doesn’t have to be. Treat yourself to a perfect bronze tan that will have you looking and thinking summer all year!

Preventing Wrinkles

September 4, 2009

With so many of our posts focusing on treating wrinkles, I thought it was about time to discuss preventing facial wrinkles. Wrinkles are caused by a number of factors including aging, stress, diet, and lifestyle choices. While we can’t stop the clock and prevent aging entirely, it is possible to minimize many of the other known causes of wrinkles. Start by looking at your current skincare routine. Many of the products you may currently be using could actually be doing more harm to your skin than good. Eliminate as many product containing harsh chemical ingredients as you can. Natural cleansers and cosmetics are a great place to begin. If you aren’t using one already, consider switching to a mineral based makeup. One of my personal favorites is Bare Minerals. They make a very gentle mineral based makeup that is good for your skin. If you aren’t already familiar with them, take a moment to read a few Bare Minerals Reviews and you will see why so many people are switching to mineral makeup. Part 2 or our series on preventing wrinkles will focus on diet and lifestyle and how you can modify both to help delay the onset of lines and facial wrinkles.

Anti Cellulite Cream

Jewel was recently spotted with a bag from Adonia Organics.

Award winning singer/songwriter Jewel was recently spotted with a bag full of high end skin care products on her way to a lunch gathering. What’s in the bag? Well, rumor has it that it was the super secret anti cellulite treatment that’s had Hollywood buzzing lately. What is it? It’s a brand new cellulite cream that uses stable plant stem cells combined with a wide range of organic ingredients to promote skin renewal and reduce the appearance of cellulite. Why do the celebs want it? Well, just take a look at the recent flap over Kim Kardashian and her “untouched” photos that were leaked out onto the internet. A problem with cellulite can damage the image and marketability of a celebrity in no time. The makers of this popular cellulite treatment, Adonia Organics cite a clinical study performed by AMA labs that showed an average reduction in the appearance of cellulite of 72% after six weeks of use. Does it really work? Well, several prominent beauty editors seem to think so. Adonia Legtone has been put to the test by the likes of Cosmo Bride, Look Magazine, Woman’s Own, and ever AOL Stylelist in a recent article about cellulite creams that really work. So if you are looking to beat cellulite this summer, this may be an option. While it has been slow to be released into retail outlets, it is currently available online at Adonialegtone.com

Revitol Reviews

December 12, 2006

Recently, I’ve come across numerous internet based advertisements for an anti aging skin care solution called Revitol. As with any other anti wrinkle solution, we wanted to find out if it was really as good as it sounds. We decided to have our review team check them out to find out if the product really worked and see what kind of reputation the company itself had.

What did we discover?

As always, we go through the trouble of reading the fine print deep in the terms and conditions page so you don’t have to. We did find some red flag items. When an order is placed, you are automatically signed up to receive the product every six months. The site claims that you can cancel at any time but if that is the case; why not make the automatic delivery optional? The second thing that our review team found was some expensive shipping and handling $7.95 for domestic shipments and $29.95 for international. That could be considered reasonable however, they disclose deep within the site that orders take anywhere from 10-14 business days for delivery. They also disclose that a $10 processing fee will be charged to all returns and that returns will only be accepted if the customer has completed their program. Does this mean that if I am allergic to the product and am unable to use it that I can’t even return it? Our review team decided to dig a little deeper by checking out Revitol with the Better Business Bureau. We were less than thrilled by what we found. The company carries a “D” rating which the BBB defines as, “We have enough concerns about this company that we recommend caution in doing business with it.” Here is another direct quote from the BBB, “We believe this company’s advertising is misleading.” Based on this information, we decided to save our money and avoid purchasing the product for further review. This was more than enough information to convince us to stick with some of our previously reviewed products that have delivered good results and backed them with professional customer service. After numerous reviews, the hands down favorite product of our review team remains the Athena 7 Minute Lift. You can read the full write up on that product elsewhere on the site or visit their website for more information at: Athena 7 Minute Lift

Look for more reviews in upcoming weeks as we continue our search for the best anti aging creams and wrinkle minimizing products!

Frownies Reviews

December 6, 2006

I’ve recently received a considerable reader interest in a product called Frownies. It is a bit of a break from our standard format as it isn’t a wrinkle cream per say but it is designed to reduce wrinkles – specifically frown lines, expression lines, and smile lines. We decided to check out the product to see what all of the hype was about. Here’s what our review team discovered:

The product consists of adhesive pads that are designed to be applied to the face while you sleep to “retrain” your facial muscles. The company suggests that you will see results within 3-4 weeks provided that the product is used daily. Our review team was unable to find any clinical studies or trial data to support their claims so that was a bit disappointing. If the product works as well as advertised, why not get some independent confirmation from a reliable third party testing facility? Another issue that our review team raised is that the company says to allow 10-14 days for your order to arrive. This seems a bit long for a product shipping within the same country. It took a while to find the ingredient list on their website. We did find it and discovered that the product consists of nothing more than Kraft paper and dry gum adhesive (I’m no chemist but that sounds a lot like tape). Overall, we were less than impressed with the product. If you are looking for a similar product that works well in these same areas, we suggest trying one of the other wrinkle reducers previously reviewed. Our favorite is still the Athena 7 Minute Lift. The product has performed well in clinical trials and is backed by some extremely customer friendly shipping and return policies. You can find more information on their product through their website at: Athena 7 Minute Lift

Having trouble choosing the best anti wrinkle eye cream?

You’re not alone! The cosmetics industry spends hundreds of millions of dollars marketing new products each year. Some of these products are really good and deliver results that make them worth every penny. Ah, but with every needle comes a haystack! There are also more than a few anti wrinkle eye cream products out there selling for top dollar that are nothing more than a fancy moisturizer. We decided to put our review team to work evaluating some of the best selling eye wrinkle products to determine which ones represent the best value to the consumer. We looked at several criteria including: product performance, price, customer service, shipping practices, return policy, and company reputation. What were the results? You may be surprised that some of your favorite high profile companies didn’t score as well as you may have expected while several newcomers to the market seem to have the formula down for delivering high quality products and top notch customer service. Wrinkle Reduction Cream

Do Wrinkle Reduction Creams Really Work?

In recent years, there have been dozens of new products introduced to the market that tout their amazing wrinkle reduction effects. Many cosmetic companies have embraced the desire of women to retain younger looking skin and come up with entire lines of products that supposedly do just that. But do they really work or is all just a marketing gimmick? We decided to put some of the top selling wrinkle reduction creams to the test to see if they actually deliver the results that they promise. We found that some of the top names in the industry actually have less than favorable reputations with consumers. On the other hand, we also found a couple of products that actually do work quite well. One thing that became clear as we did our research is that companies who have products that work tend to stand behind their products with strong customer service and straightforward gaurantees. As a general rule, if a company does not accept returns it should act as a clear warning sign that you may want to avoid doing business with them.
